JEFFERSON PARISH, La. —

Jefferson Parish Schools announced that the United States Marine Band concert scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12, at East Jefferson High School has been canceled. Officials said it was because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The district said it had been looking forward to hosting the band, known as The President’s Own, as part of its national concert tour. This would have been the band’s first performance in Jefferson Parish in 10 years. Advertisement

The Marine Band has been part of American musical tradition since 1798. Officials said the shutdown has affected federal agencies involved in the tour, making it necessary to cancel the event.

Jefferson Parish Schools said it hopes to welcome the band in the future once normal operations resume.
