JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — The football game between Rio Vista and Axtell Friday night was canceled after a call reported a potential threat, officials say.
The game was scheduled to be played at Rio Vista ISD's football stadium, around 40 miles south of Fort Worth.
Rio Vista ISD Superintendent Dr. Chris Chappotin said the game was canceled "out of an abundance of caution" after the McClellan County Sheriff's Office received a phone call that "reported the possibility of a shooting at the football game."
The decision to cancel the game was made "after consultation with law enforcement and administration from both districts," Chappotin said.
Chappotin said all were able to leave the area safely and no one was hurt.
