JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and its federal partners recently received multiple reports of scammers calling community members with threats of arrest for missed jury duty.

In the new scam, which is separate from the other recent grift where scammers use AI videos and fake deputies to target families , the scammers, who have the ability to spoof legitimate phone numbers, often make their calls look like they are from the local US Marshals office.

If someone calls you pretending to be from a law enforcement agency and asking for payment, HANG UP. Remember that JCSO and other law enforcement agencies will not call you for:

Missing Grand Jury, Jury Duty, or a Jury Summons

A Warrant- they prefer just to come find you in person
