A 19-year-old Hamilton man faces numerous charges after police allege he tried to flee police with a loaded handgun early Thursday morning on the central Mountain.

In a media release, police said officers responded to reports of a man “passed out” behind the wheel of a red Dodge Ram pickup truck with its engine running in a townhouse complex near Upper Wentworth Street and Stonechurch Road East.

Police said officers determined the owner of the vehicle was a prohibited driver, allegedly known to police for violence and fleeing from law enforcement. Officers “boxed in” the vehicle, the release said before approaching and knocking on the driver’s window.
