The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a warning to pensioners over bogus Winter Fuel Payment messages.

New qualifying rules are in place for winter 2025/26 determining who will get the payments worth up to £300.

Retirees will not qualify for the payments this year if they have annual incomes above £35,000.

The vast majority of people that qualify will receive the money automatically, meaning you won't need to do anything to receive it.

In an alert on X, the DWP is warning people not to fall for Winter Fuel Payment scams that ask for pensioners to apply for the money.
