SABINE COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Deep East Texas group is on a mission to preserve and relocate a nearly 100-year-old specialized train car.
“It’s really important to see how we got where we are,” said volunteer Brendon Bohall.
Bohall is one of two dozen volunteers helping restore a 1930 Temple Lumber Company steam engine locomotive.
“We took this on to just do our part to try to preserve some of this local history,” said. president of the Southern Pine Locomotive Company, Keith Bass. “The entire East Texas region was developed by the railroad, and it was through the railroad industry and timber industry that this region thrived.”
In the past six months, the organization has been tackling their first project with the early 100-ton locomotive. It was used for hauling timber to the mill,
