Beckwourth, Calif. (KOLO) - Smoke may be visible in Plumas National Forest over the weekend as U.S. Forest Service crews conducts prescribed burns. Firefighters will be treating about 90 acres in the Beckwourth Ranger District near Sloat.
It’s a continuation of work where prescribed burning took place during the spring prescribed burn season. The area has previous fuel reduction treatments including logging and mechanical treatments.
Prescribed burns are designed to help with fuel reduction, treat ground fuels, and reduce the risk of damaging wildfire.
Smoke is expected to be visible in nearby communities including Sloat, Cromberg, Greenhorn Ranch, Blairsden, Graeagle, Clio, Mohawk Valley, Quincy, and Portola.
Fire crews are expected to complete the work by Sunday.
