Dario Amodei, CEO of the California-based AI safety and research firm Anthropic, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday as the company looks to expand its presence in India.

The discussion focused on Anthropic’s plans to scale up operations in India and the growing adoption of its AI tools, including Claude Code, whose usage in the country has risen fivefold since June, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

Reflecting on the meeting, Amodei said, "Today I met with PM Narendra Modi to discuss Anthropic's expansion to India, where Claude Code use is up 5 since June. How India deploys AI across critical sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture for over a billion people will be essential in shaping the future of AI".
