SAN AUGUSTINE, Texas — Law enforcement is searching for a person accused of firing multiple gunshots at officers in San Augustine and leading police on a chase into the woods.

Officers with the San Augustine Police Department and deputies from the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office responded to shots heard at the Sunset Hills Apartment Complex, located at 900 Holly Courts Drive in San Augustine, in the late hours of Friday, police said.

According to the San Augustine Police Department, while patrolling the area, someone fired a shot near law enforcement personnel. An officer said they heard the "distinct cracking sound of a bullet" passing nearby, indicating it was fired in his direction.
