Whether you’re a big drinker or not, it’s hard not to recognise the significance of the local pub .

Bringing people together and offering a chance to socialise, they are often described as the centrepiece of any community but they’re at risk. A report just this week found that more than 300 pubs could be expected to close across the North West next year without urgent action.

The British Beer and Pub Association warned that approximately six pubs a week - the equivalent of 1,335 jobs a year - could close without Government intervention and relief on business rates.
