TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Over a thousand people gathered in downtown Tampa Sunday morning for a fundraiser to help the families of police officers who have lost their lives. The event was held at Gaslight Park with numerous streets closed for runners.

"This is a special moment where the city comes together to honor our law enforcement," said Mayor Jane Castor.

The Tampa Police Department hosts their annual Memorial Run each year, to honor the 32 officers who have died in the line of duty. Funds raised by the charity help support the families of the victims.

"The money goes to scholarships for police officers kids and our fallen officer's children. It helps families get to Washington D.C. Some of the funds even help with special events and supporting our police and our officers," said Ruth C
