LAKE CITY − The Carolina Academy seized the moment because coach Cameron Sebnick made sure it was never too big.

Before the Bobcats' SCISA 2A/1A state final against Lowcountry Prep − the same team CA beat 5-1 for last year's crown − Sebnick had not one, but two talks with her players.

"I sent them a message last night. And at lunch today, we had a long conversation about how we need to just go into today like we had no idea about them," Sebnick said. "Just take it like any other match.

"No big deal. Just like any other match." It worked. "Many games were really close in the regular-season match against them," said Carlie Anne Smith, the Bobcats' top singles seed. "So, (Sebnick) wanted us to go into this with a whole new mindset."
