Police found a loaded shotgun with a defaced serial number and the safety set to off after stopping a pickup truck in Sarnia recently, police say.

After spotting the vehicle on London Road, west of East Street, around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 8, with licence plates stolen three days prior, police followed and stopped the vehicle in a parking spot at Germain Park, police said.

The 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun was discovered during a search, along with 22 shotgun cartridges, police said.

A 23-year-old Sarnia man is charged with:

•Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;

•Unauthorized possession of a firearm;

•Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm;

•Careless transport of a firearm;

•Transport of a firearm contrary to regulations;
