TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A new study took a look at all 50 states to analyze the safest places to live. Not only was Florida not ranked among the top contenders, but it scored as the fourth least safe place to reside.

The study, by WalletHub, used 52 key indicators of safety and grouped them into five categories to determine where each state ranked. These measures ranged from assaults per capita to financial losses from climate disasters, including economic factors like unemployment.

Overall, the state of Florida ranked 47th. Taking into account a ranking system in which 1 equals safest and 25 is average, Florida came in 21st in murders and non-negligent manslaughters per capita, as well as assaults per capita.
