Six people are dead and 18 others injured after three separate shootings at high school homecoming celebrations across Mississippi late Friday and early Saturday, according to local officials and state investigators.
The most deadly shooting took place shortly after midnight in Leland, a small city in Washington County in western Mississippi, where four people were killed and at least 16 others were hurt. Leland Mayor John Lee confirmed the deaths on Saturday morning and said the attack occurred along a main street where crowds had gathered after Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston High School.
