BUCKTOWN — Acclaimed Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick has died. He was 66.

Fitzpatrick’s wife Michele said he died of a heart attack Saturday morning at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, according to the Tribune, which first reported the news. He was in the hospital awaiting a double lung transplant.

Fitzpatrick’s work has been displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago, Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art and New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Met, among other places. His intricate multimedia collages and paintings weave in images of the city close to his heart. He designed album covers for artists like Lou Reed, The Neville Brothers and Steve Earle. The five-pointed star logo for taco spot Big Star and the poster for Lollapalooza 2015 are his as well.
