ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Round Rock will hold open houses to share plans for the next phase of their trail system with the community.

As of October 2025, Round Rock has built over 20 miles of hike and bike trails and has a few projects underway. On Thursday, the Round Rock City Council approved moving forward with building the Northeast Downtown Phase 2 Trail Project.

"The end goal is connectivity," said Rick Atkins, Round Rock's Parks and Recreation Director. "We want to take a large community, and we want to make it smaller."

Atkins said he wants to make walking from Round Rock to neighboring cities, like Georgetown and Pflugerville, easier.
