EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Volunteers gathered in Evansville to build beds for children in need as part of an event organized by the Purdue Alumni Club of Evansville.
Participants assembled at 1167 South Green River Road on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 8 a.m. to noon to lend a hand to the "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" initiative. The event welcomed volunteers with no prior experience, encouraging the community to join in with energy and a smile.
"Between 3 and 5% of our community, the kids will sleep on the floor or a couch tonight and our mission is to solve that," Paul Watzlavik, the founder, said. "In fact, our true mission is no kid sleeps on the floor in our town," Watzlavik added.
