Drew Pomeranz, who pitched in 72 games for the Red Sox from 2016-18, will start for the Cubs in elimination Game 5 of the NLDS against the Brewers.

The 36-year-old lefty will serve as an opener. He posted a 2.17 ERA, 3.36 FIP and 1.07 WHIP in 57 outings (four starts) for Chicago this season. He struck out 57 and walked 15 while holding opponents to a .210 batting average in 49 ⅔ innings.

Pomeranz likely will pitch just the first inning. He never recorded more than four outs in a game this season. Fifty-three of his 57 appearances lasted an inning or shorter.

He has been dominant this postseason for the Cubs, tossing five scoreless and hitless innings while walking nobody and striking out five.
