More than 4,500 municipal candidates in Quebec were elected unopposed.

The nomination period for the provincial municipal elections, which include approximately 1,100 municipalities, ended on Oct. 3.

Among the 4,560 elected officials, 564 ran for mayor and 3,996 for councillor, according to figures published Friday by the Quebec Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

Six were also elected unopposed as prefects of their regional county municipality.

In 2021, 4,974 candidates were elected unopposed: 615 mayors, 4,355 councilors and 4 prefects.
