DRAPER — As storm clouds roll in throughout the state, city and county agencies have been giving flood warnings and directives to residents. One Utah city has been encouraging its residents to prepare by taking a look at their nearby storm drains.
When rain comes fast, a covered storm drain can be the culprit behind flooding that finds its way into homes and basements. Draper’s Adopt a Drain Program encourages community members to take stewardship over a small number of drains and keep an eye out for debris or trash that might block water.
“Mine is ‘No drain, no gain, ‘” said Coleton Konesky, a stormwater specialist with Draper City and the head of the Adopt a Drain Program.
