GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A unity walk was held in Rosa Parks Circle, bringing together community members, faith leaders and police all taking a stand against gun violence and pushing for peace.

This is the fifth year the unity walk honoring lives lost to gun violence was organized in collaboration with Uptown Church, the Grand Rapids Police Department. H

However, this year felt different for those in the crowd.

On Oct. 4, 17-year-old Niles Murray was shot and killed, prompting calls for change and healing in Grand Rapids.

“We understand that the walk won’t solve the problem, but it will amplify the awareness of the problem in our community,” said community organizer Samika Douglas.
