SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Special Olympics athletes from across southeastern South Dakota are in Sioux Falls this weekend, competing in the annual Southeast Area Bowling Tournament.

This year’s tournament is being held at Eastway Bowl, with more than 500 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners expected to compete.

The tournament leads to Special Olympics South Dakota’s state tournaments, taking place in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen this year.

“It is a ton of fun. Every year, I come in and I get to see all of the athletes again. Some of our athletes just do bowling. So it’s great to see them. They remember my name, they come up and give high-fives. It’s just awesome to see them compete at one of their favorite sports,” said Jill Kvanli with Special Olympics South Dakota.
