IRMO, S.C. — Authorities say three people escaped a Saturday afternoon house fire in Irmo with minor injuries, but the home was heavily damaged.

The Irmo Fire District said units were sent to the 100 block of Laurel Branch Way around 4:30 p.m. and found a heavy fire throughout the home and its attic when they arrived.

Irmo Fire said they were able to get the fire under control with help from the Lexington County Fire Service and the Columbia-Richland Fire Department. However, the home sustained heavy damage and several portions of the roof collapsed before the fire was completely out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
