NEW ORLEANS — are gathering at Sweet Lorraine's this evening to watch the votes be counted in the hotly contested race for Orleans Parish Sheriff.

Throughout the campaign, the former interim NOPD superintendent has held a double-digit lead in the polls. She told WWL Louisiana that she has the right stuff to unseat incumbent Sheriff Susan Hutson.

Woodfork has seized on the May escape of 10 inmates at the parish prison, calling it one example of gross mismanagement on Hutson's watch. If elected, she has vowed to get to the bottom of the jail's many problems.

“Our jail is in crisis,” Woodfork said. “The problems at the Orleans Justice Center didn’t begin with the jailbreak. They need a professional, proven law enforcement officer to get it done.”
