One week after a blocking a punt for a touchdown, Nebraska football nearly got another special teams score.
Husker Kenneth Williams will have to settle for a 85-yard kickoff return that set up a touchdown for the Huskers. Williams, a walk-on from Lincoln High, has been NU’s primary kickoff player this year.
“You got Kenneth Williams, who doesn’t even have a scholarship, and he’s out there running that kickoff return back,” coach Matt Rhule said. “He does now, by the way.”
A scholarship, that is.
“That wrong was righted after the game,” Rhule said. Nebraska found Williams while reading the local newspaper and seeing his track times at Lincoln High. He’s in his third year in the program.
“He’s just kind of been waiting his turn,” Rhule said of Williams in mid-September.
