An attempted two-point conversion that would have given George Washington a lead in the final minute on Saturday was stuffed by the Jefferson defense, allowing the Cougars to hang on for a 34-33 win at Steve Edwards Sr. Field.

Two encroachment penalties against the Cougars on the point-after try convinced Patriots coach Steve Edwards Jr. to try for two points instead of kicking the extra point and tying the game with seconds to go.

It was an example of Jefferson coming up big on a day when coach Craig Hunter said the Cougars made too many mistakes.
