Minnesota Duluth was handed a golden opportunity to make up for some key mistakes on Saturday at Northern State only to commit one more and take its first loss of the season, 34-31 on Saturday in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

The 10th-ranked Bulldogs trailed by 10 points with the ball on their own 4-yard line and 3:31 to play. After the first play of the drive ended in a UMD penalty, the Bulldogs went 98 yards in less than two minutes, ending in a 4-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Walljasper to Luke Dehnicke.

Even more surprisingly, UMD recovered an onside kick and had the ball on the 50-yard line with 1:35 to work. After a short pass play and a NSU penalty put UMD on the Wolves’ 34, Walljasper’s pass was picked off by Tasean Young Jr. to end the threat.
