NEW ORLEANS — The hotly contested race for Orleans Parish Criminal Court Clerk is expected to go to a runoff, according to WWL political analyst Clancy DuBos.
As of 10 p.m., WWL’s unofficial results showed incumbent Darren Lombard and challenger Calvin Duncan in the lead with 46.87% and 46.56% of votes respectively. But neither had secured enough votes to win outright. A third candidate, Valencia Miles, trailed behind with 6.57% of votes.
Duncan spent more than 28 years in prison for a murder he has always insisted he didn’t commit. Sentenced to life at Angola prison, he used his time behind bars to study law and eventually became an attorney. His conviction was ultimately overturned.
