With just over 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Georgia faced a third-and-nine while leading Auburn by three points.

As the play clock wound down, Georgia coach Kirby Smart called a timeout to stop and go over the play.

Or did he?

After referees stopped play and granted Smart the timeout, he argued saying he was clapping his hands instead and the Bulldogs were awarded an entire new play.

“That the side judge over there, Kirby told him he was clapping, not calling timeout,” Auburn coach Hugh Freeze said postgame.

Freeze added that regardless of what was called the referees should have ruled the play as a delay of game or a timeout.

“Not a whole new play,” Freeze added. “Still not sure what happened there. There’s a lot of times that I make bad calls, and officials do the same. B
