Kenza Dali lofted a shot over the goalkeeper in the 72nd minute and the San Diego Wave captured a must-win game, beating the Utah Royals 3-2 Saturday night in Sandy, Utah.

The victory was San Diego’s first since Aug. 16. The Wave (9-8-7) scored half as many goals on Saturday night – three – as they had in 10 total matches since the National Women’s Soccer League’s international break ended two months ago.

With the win, the Wave moved from eighth place to sixth in the National Women’s Soccer League standings with just two regular-season matches remaining. The top eight teams make the playoffs.

The clubs were tied 1-1 during stoppage time at the end of the first half when Kate Del Fava of the Royals (5-12-7) scored an own-goal, giving the Wave a 2-1 lead.
