DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Runners laced up all around the Northland this weekend for the first-ever Break the Bank Ultra Marathon, a 50-mile endurance race stretching nearly the entire length of the Willard Munger Trail.
More than a hundred lined up for the race, which began in Sturgeon Lake and ended in Morgan Park— fittingly finishing at the historic Park State Bank building, where the event gets its name.
“We like that there’s an open community in the ultra-running world that allows people of all different sizes and talents to just come out here and push their boundaries,” said Dane Rauschenberg, race co-founder.
