Communications Minister Anika Wells is expected to reiterate her expectations of social media giants for Australia’s upcoming under-16s ban in a string of high-level meetings this week.
From Monday talks are scheduled with Meta, Snapchat, YouTube and TikTok — while a November meeting is planned with X.
Ms Wells — who will be joined by eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant for the discussions — is expected to remind tech firms non-compliance won’t be tolerated and call for them to work proactively with the government.
“Social media minimum age laws will give children a reprieve from the persuasive pull of platforms and those platforms must work closely with eSafety to ensure their systems comply with the law,” Ms Wells said.
