AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Three people were injured, including a Burke County Sheriff’s deputy, after being struck by gunfire following a block party in Waysneboro, officials said.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to reports of a large block party taking place in the 100 block of Virginia Avenue on Saturday, just after 11:30 p.m.

Authorities stated that while deputies were working to disperse the crowd and shut down the gathering safely, numerous gunshots were fired.

During the incident, three individuals were struck by gunfire, including a Burke County deputy who sustained a graze wound.

One additional victim was shot at least once and is reported to be in stable condition. A third victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition.
