OLD TOWN, Fla. (WFLA) — A Dixie County deputy was shot in the line of duty Saturday night, the sheriff's office said.

Officers responded to a report that someone fired into an occupied building, the Old Town Tavern. Upon arrival at the scene, the armed suspect began firing at deputies.

One deputy was struck and taken to a nearby hospital, and at 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, was in stable condition, the Dixie County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspect was also struck in the exchange of gunfire, but their condition is unknown.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office said its department also responded to the incident. Deputies were reportedly stationed at the hospital to watch over the suspect while the deputy was being treated.
