HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Rusty's Place in Holyoke hosted its annual 'Out of the Darkness' barbecue Saturday afternoon, marking the 11th year of the event aimed at raising awareness for suicide prevention.
The barbecue is part of the Out of the Darkness Walk fundraiser, which supports suicide prevention efforts and provides a platform for participants to honor loved ones lost to suicide. This year, the event successfully raised over $5,000, which will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
"My wait staff and cooks had people come up to them all, tell us how they lost a person, and that's why they've come out, because it means a lot, it never goes away. It never gets easier," said Carol Beal, owner of Rusty's Place.
