1925: A tourist whose car was stalled on the highway west of Flagstaff near where the road turns off to Bob Garing’s ranch on Wednesday night was astonished to see a closed car, in flames, rushing down the grade from the east toward him. Shortly before it reached him it left the road, hurdled a stump, then struck a log, which it followed then turned over. It was the REO coupe belonging to F.A. Alexander, an employee of the Flagstaff Lumber Co. The family were at the carnival, the car having been stolen from where it had been left in front of their home, the I.M. Jackson house on West Railroad avenue, the doors locked. The tourist said he saw no one in the car or around it when or after it came within view. The car was damaged as much as fire could damage it.
