AUSTIN, Texas — One person was shot early Sunday morning in North Austin near Northgate Boulevard and West Rundberg Lane, Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis said.
APD said an officer witnessed a drive-by shooting in the area and followed the vehicle after immediately alerting dispatch.
The officer gave commands for the driver to stop, but the vehicle turned onto Parkfield Drive and continued moving, prompting the officer to fire two shots, according to Davis.
The vehicle was later found on a side street with one person injured inside. Police recovered a gun from the vehicle, but it is unclear whether the injury, a gunshot to the neck, resulted from the officer’s gunfire.
The victim was taken to a local hospital. APD said the investigation is ongoing.
