DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) is overseeing the investigation into a mercury spill in Greene County on Saturday.
According to the Press Secretary of the Ohio EPA, it received about a suspected mercury release on Murray Hill Drive in Xenia Township at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ohio EPA On-Scene Coordinator arrived on the scene at approximately 3 p.m. alongside the Office of Emergency Response (OER). They assisted the local fire department and confirmed there was mercury in the road.
“The source of and the amount of mercury released is still unknown,” wrote the Ohio EPA.
It said there was no evacuation, but the road was closed to prevent the spread.
