QUINCY (WGEM) - The sound of aircraft engines echo east of Quincy — for now.
Ten days into the government shutdown, planes at Quincy Regional Airport are still on schedule, but they could be grounded if a budget isn’t approved by early November.
An extended shutdown could also leave a lasting impact on the airport’s future operations.
All commercial flights at QRA rely on the government’s Essential Air Service (EAS) program , which pays airlines to serve smaller airports with flight routes often deemed “unprofitable.”
$41 million in federal funding has been secured to continue EAS flights through Nov. 2, but if the government shutdown continues past that point, airlines would have to pay out-of-pocket for flights in and out of Quincy.
