SHREWSBURY, Mass. —

A fundraiser and vigil for Kevin Doherty, the Shrewsbury man who was shot and killed over the summer , was held on Saturday.

More than 500 community members gathered to remember Doherty and help raise money for his grieving family.

"When this whole thing happened, Todd called me and said, 'Do you want to do a fundraiser? Show up on Oct. 11," Andrea Castinetti, an organizer, said. "This is the best way to help."

Castinetti said she's thankful that some good can come out of a horrific situation.

"It's just been absolutely amazing," she said.

All the money raised will go to Doherty's fiancé and sons.

So far, organizers have raised $63,000 in donations and along with the in-person fundraising, a silent auction is being held online.
