FERRYSBURG, Mich. — Ferrysburg City Council has dismissed two ethics complaints filed by Councilmember Rebecca Hopp and resident Joe Lyons following controversial comments made by Mayor Richard Carlson.

Hopp said she filed her complaint after Carlson publicly criticized her and Lyons during the Aug. 18 council meeting. The two had previously filed an ethics complaint regarding the appointment of Commissioner Jake Stearley’s wife, Emily, to the city’s recreation committee in June.

“I was very shocked that he would behave in such a manner as such,” said Hopp. “But then again, it just goes back to that embarrassment that somebody would feel or believe that they have the power to do that, to try to belittle someone else.”

Hopp said both complaints were brought before the council on Oct.
