Former England legend Paul Gascoigne has revealed details about the evening he assaulted his ex-wife Sheryl, leaving her "black and blue", whilst acknowledging their marriage was a "mistake."

The 1996 incident occurred at a hotel in Perthshire, where he headbutted his wife and shoved her to the ground, resulting in her departing with her hand in bandages.

Following just one year of matrimony, Sheryl initiated divorce proceedings, which led to the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder paying her £700,000 plus £10,000 monthly in maintenance fees.
