Health department offering vaccinations ahead of respiratory virus season

MONROE — The Monroe County Health Department is offering flu, coronavirus, and pneumonia vaccinations ahead of the respiratory virus season.

“While no vaccine offers 100 percent protection, they’re a powerful tool in fighting an infection, which can shorten your illness, make it less severe, and prevent it from spreading to others,” said Jamie Dean, health officer/director at the Monroe County Health Department.

Residents are encouraged to visit their primary care provider, preferred pharmacy, or schedule a vaccine appointment at the health department.

The health department has the flu vaccine, coronavirus vaccines, and the pneumonia vaccine. It accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance plans. Cash and checks are accepted if immunizations are not a covered benefit.
