Two north Island municipal governments and the Ehattesaht/Chinehkint First Nation have condemned break-ins to shipping containers which stockpile supplies for their regional emergency program.

In a statement released to media, the Village of Zeballos, Strathcona Regional District and the Ehattesaht/Chinehkint First Nation released a joint statement about three shipping containers being broken into at the Ehatis Tsunami Evacuation Site on Oct. 7.

The statement says it is evident that heavy duty machinery was involved due to the damage on the containers.

According to the statement, this is the third break-in which has happened in the region in 2025, with the other two taking place at the Zeballos Tsunami Evacuation Site.
