STATE COLLEGE — In a shockingly quick downfall, Penn State fired football coach James Franklin on Sunday, 10 months after he led the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoffs semifinal.

Franklin was in the middle of his 12th season as the Nittany Lions head coach. He finishes his tenure 104-45, tied with Rip Engle for second-most wins in program history.
