HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new gallery exhibit at the East-West Center invites guests on a journey throughout the diverse cultures of the Philippines during Filipino American History Month.

“Kulturang Makulay: Colorful Cultures of the Philippines” opens Oct. 12 through Mar. 15 with free gallery admission. It is in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the UH Manoa Center for Philippine Studies.

The opening reception on Sunday begins at 1 p.m. It includes a guided tour with exhibit curators Iris Gil Viacrusis and Annie Reynolds. Light refreshments will be provided.

“I want a hands-on kind of exhibit where people get to see a little bit more,” said Filipino fashion designer Viacrusis.
