HARPERS FERRY — Friendship Fire Company visited C. W. Shipley Elementary School on Oct. 10 to finish Fire Prevention week with discussion on fire safety. Students got to see fire trucks up close and learn more about what firefighters do to keep them and their family safe.

Principal Brooks Kursey explained that fire prevention week is all about reinforcing what kids already know about fire safety. Safety is the school’s first priority, so it’s something they discuss with students throughout the year. However, fire prevention week creates the opportunity to focus on safety and help kids understand why it’s so important.
