TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Southern Arizona may still be experiencing warm days, but overnight temperatures are starting to drop, creating challenges for the unhoused population. Socks are the most requested but least donated item in shelters, and a local organization is working to address that need one step at a time.

During colder months socks can protect against the cold and even prevent serious health issues. That’s why the Salvation Army is hosting the “Socktober” drive, and officials say one pair can go a long way.

The organization has specific needs for the drive. Women’s and children’s socks can be any color, pattern, size or style. Men’s socks should be white and athletic-style. Medium and large adult-sized socks are needed the most. Each donation box can hold 500 socks, and Espi
