LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The City of Laredo’s new billion-dollar budget is now in effect, but its approval has sparked plenty of debate about the allocation of funds and the process behind it.

This year’s budget not only surpasses $1 billion but also reflects major changes in how the money is spent and where it comes from. City leaders describe it as a balancing act, leading to a lot of debate.

While some call the final plan a step forward, others say the process could’ve been smoother.

“There are some things that I’m happy with and some things that I’m not too happy with,” Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino said. “Nothing is perfect; we’re there to discuss the deficiencies and focus on the solutions, not the problems.”
